Ian & Deborah
Escapegoat Adventures is run By Ian & Deborah Fehler. We have spent the last 10 years split between living in Adelaide and travelling the World. We have over 10 years experience working in the outdoors tourism and event management industries and are totally passionate about what we want to provide for our guests.

Ian finished University, and tried to avoid getting a proper job. So he spent 5 years travelling instead. He is a PADI dive instructor, and spent a number of years teaching scuba diving in the Caribbean, Mediterranean and on the Great Barrier Reef, and then working in the Alps during the winter seasons. He started running chalets cooking and cleaning for 12 hungry guests each week, and also worked as a Resort Manager and Snowboard guide.
A move to Adelaide forced a halt in his diving activities due to his desire not to be eaten by a shark, so instead he re-ignited his love of mountain biking. A move back to the French Alps for 16 months gave him the chance to get his Scottish Mountain Bike Leaders (SMBLA) MBL qualification, which qualifies him to guide expeditions and lead and instruct bike riders around the world. This allowed him to spend 2 summers working in the French Alps guiding bikers around the Morzine and Flaine areas, and he also squeezed in another winter season snowboarding too.
He is now a regular contributor to “Australian Mountain Bike” magazine, the current Adelaide Mountain Bike Club ‘Trails Access Officer’, and has assisted BikeSA and the DEH with various trails projects. He is also a qualified Private Investigator, a keen mountain bike orienteer (2009 SA State Champion), adventure racer, and beer and wine drinker.

Deborah, it’s fair to say, is the brains of the team. She is Adelaide born and bred, and a qualified social worker. After spending a number of years working at various social working roles, she decided to travel to Europe, so headed off to the Alps to work as a chalet host, and that was where she met Ian. She was a much better cook and chalet manager than Ian. She did another winter Season in Colorado as a chalet manager, and also managed to spend a summer in Cyprus working at a dive centre, and a summer in the Caribbean working with American teenagers. She then moved back to Adelaide with Ian, and spent 3 years working as a Programme Co-ordinator, organising camps for children living with cancer. Finally she travelled back to Europe one last time for 16 months, and spent 16 months working as a chalet manager, whilst squeezing in as much Mountain Biking, Hiking and Snowboarding as she could.
Deborah is now happy to be back in Adelaide, but is keen to get out and take people to some of her favourite places as much as possible. She will be using her events management experience to make all the trips and events run as smoothly as possible, and she hopes not to have to use her social work skills with guests or Ian too much!
