Girls Part I skills 3 May ’08

Another extremely successful Girls skills day was held on Saturday 3 May. Luckily the weather was perfect, not too hot, and no rain or wind, so our tent didn’t get blown away!

The park was very busy when we turned up, and it was great to see loads of other people out on their bikes.

Our intrepid band of riders were Lisa, Pina, Michelle, Brigid, Fiona & Jane. All the girls had done a little off-road riding and lots of road riding, but were keen to learn new skills.

After the now traditional warm-up obstacle course, it was time to head off around the park and concentrate on weight-shifting, braking, balance and gear choice. Then after a further ride it was time to tackle the next challenge- Lunch!

Then, in the afternoon started the hard stuff, tackling various skills such as wheel-lifts and trackstands. It was a good thing Deb had a secret stash of Brownies ready for afternoon tea, just as everybody’s energy started to wain.

In fact, the brownies were so good, that after we tackled the trackstands, all the girls were keen to play a few games, and then have another crack at the obstacle course.p5030026.JPG

And then finally, it was time to have a go at the see-saws and railway sleepers of the skills area. And luckily, no broken bones 🙂

It was a really enjoyable day for Deb & I, and we hope everyone got lots out of it to think about and practice. We hope to see you all back for Part II soon!
