Top 5 things to do in Belair National Park from the Goat Shed, this School Holidays

11 Dec 2020
Belair bike shop, things to do in summer holidays

Goat Shed

Looking for things to do in Adelaide this summer holiday? Well, we may have some suggestions!

We are super excited to finally have a proper home this summer, and we want to show it off, and invite you to have a look around. It’s great as we can now add a few more activity’s to our calendar and there are loads of extra things we can offer you. There are loads of things to do around our new Goat Shed, and most of the activities and trails are free, including the parking! 😉

Our Goat Shed is based in the old Belair Country Club, adjacent to the Belair National Park Holiday Park, with loads of free parking, and with super easy access straight into the National Park. So it’s a perfect place to start or finish a fun day out over the holiday period.

Check out the map here with added GOAT SHED! :-

At the Goat Shed we are normally open from Wednesday-Sunday, and have awesome Coffees, Soft Drinks, cakes and muffins, and Ice Cream to tempt you, as well as all our bikes available for hire. We have a brand new fleet of kids 20″ and 24″ mountain bikes, as well as adult hardtail and full suspension bikes and E-bikes, plus baby seats and a kids trailer.

And we will be open 7 days a week from 28 December until Australia Day! (only closed New Years Day!)

Looking for things to do this school Holidays? So, here are a few suggestions of things to do, and a list of our events planned!

1- Ride the New BIRDIE Trail!

The Birdie trail is a new 2.8km loop that starts and finishes from our shop, and takes a nice easy route around the old golf course. Most of the trail is on the old buggy trails, with a final descent that has been recently built, which is a fun beginners flow trail. It’s a great spot to see Kangaroos, Koalas and Emus- bonus points if you spot all 3! It’s also super easy to ride the first half of the loop, and pop through the gate which brings you out by the Adventure Playground- then when the kids have finished playing you can come back and finish the second half of the loop, including the descent.

If you finish and still have more energy, why not stop off at the Goat Shed for a quick snack, and we can give you the info for the other best family friendly trails to tackle in Belair.

And of course if you don’t all have bikes, or don’t want to transport all the bikes, we have plenty of bikes to hire. We have a full fleet of 20″ and 24″ kids mountain bikes, baby seats, and also a bike trailer if you have a few lazy ones! And mum and dad can always try out one of our E-bikes if they struggle to keep up with the kids! There are just so many options!

2- Join our Family Adventure Challenge Scavenger Hunt!

On Sunday 10 January we will be holding the first Escapegoat Adventure Challenge Scavenger Hunt from the Goat Shed. Grab the family and head out on an adventure! We will have a couple of routes planned, all you need is a mobile, bikes or fit running legs, and a sense of adventure!

The hunt will involve using your mobile to navigate a route around Belair National Park, with a number of challenges and questions to answer along the way. We will also make sure you see some of the best corners of the park! And there will be some great prizes too!

More info to follow, check out the event page on our Facebook page!

3-Book the kids in for one of our Holiday courses!

We have a number of School holiday sessions planned over the holidays, and will add more if we get more interest!

All sessions will run from the Goat Shed, and lunches and bike hire can be added too. We run small groups, for 10-14yrs, and all our instructors are MTBA qualified and have Working with Children checks!

Sessions planned include:-

  • Wednesday 6 Jan- Kids CORE skills session – a kid friendly version of our regular CORE skills day- 10am- 3pm. $70 per person.
  • Thursday 14 Jan- Kids adventure challenge day- a fun day of adventure, Geocaching and more! $70 per person.

Bike hire and lunch is available on both days, and children can be dropped off at 9am when the Shed opens if needed. You can book spots here!

4- Try Orienteering or GeoCaching!

The Birdie trail has it’s own orienteering course you can walk or ride. We have copies of the map at the shop, and can give you information about how to set the course up on your mobile using MapRun. There are also a number of other courses that go from the Gums Oval, just within the park.

Another option for a family fun adventure is to try GeoCaching! Geocaching is a fun GPS based treasure hunt, to find hidden caches. Its a global activity, and there are a number of geocaches doted around the park. Some are a fair way out the back of the park, so definitely best to jump on the bike to get them!

5- If all that sounds like too much hard work, why not just pop in for a coffee, cake, Iced Coffee, or just a chat!

Hope to see you soon!

Cheers,

Ian and Deborah.
