So, we had a difficult few weeks when Adelaide had a record breaking heat wave, which meant we had to reschedule a few of our course. But in the end we finally got to run the first of our Part II skills days. Due to the rescheduling and a last minute illness this meant we had just 3 lucky participants who got to get even more chances to try and practise stuff!
The format of the Second skills day is firstly to spend some time looking at the skills that we had previously learnt on the Part I course, and to then use those to tackle more difficult problems. Pretty soon Margot, Dave and Dan were all hitting the ramp, performing drop-offs, step-ups and bunny hops. Everyone was surprised how easy it was to adapt previously mastered skills to tackle new obstacles. We then spent a while perfecting our berms and cornering at speed. It was quite clear everyone was improving quickly, and of course also learning skills, which would be useful out on the track.
Then it was time for a quick lunch and coffee, before we jumped on the bikes to head off for a bit of ridding. We stopped at various spots to look at technical climbing and attacking difficult lines. We also spent time trying out our drop-offs and new skills on other parts of the trails, and trying more cornering techniques. It really was a great day, and I hope everyone learnt lots. It really is a fun course, and once you have mastered the skills from our Part I skills day you will be surprised how much more you can attempt by using these build blocks!!!
