Mountain Biking Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance is obviously really important to have when you travel, particularly if you are doing sports such as mountain biking. Ian has worked in the Insurance Industry for 5 years (as well as working as a MTB guide and scuba instructor!) and had a good look around before organising insurance for our Alps trip. We found an excellent solution we are pleased to pass on.We are happy to recommend travel insurance with Travel Insurance Direct. We have found the coverage is excellent and the policies are very cheap as there is no travel agent commission to be paid. We also have experienced claiming through them for damage to a hire vehicle whilst overseas, and our experience was excellent, with a quick and simple claims process, and rapid payment of the claim. The service and claim response we received was certainly not ‘budget’
Their policy coverage is very good (including automatically covering Laptops and cameras to $4000) and they will cover your mountain bike whilst travelling too- the default coverage is to $700 but extra coverage is simple to arrange- although it is worth noting your bike is NOT covered whilst you ride it- so come on our skills course and learn to not fall off!!
Personally we found the annual trip coverage to be great- $340 for a year which covered you and your partner whilst travelling together for unlimited trips upto 37 days. It’s almost the same price as a 37 day coverage! Or for coverage on our NZ trip, it is just $36!
It’s also worth grabbing travel insurance for domestic trips, especially if you are hiring cars- the domestic coverage includes an excess coverage to $4,000, which is normally loads cheaper than the ‘reduction excess coverage’ the car hire firms try to charge you.
